A renewed Russian air assault on Ukraine has severely damaged critical energy infrastructure, cutting electricity to more than one million people across several regions. Ukrainian authorities said the strikes targeted power generation and transmission facilities, worsening the humanitarian situation as winter conditions persist.

The attacks caused widespread blackouts in major cities and surrounding areas, disrupting heating, water supply and essential services. Emergency crews were deployed to assess the damage and carry out urgent repairs, but officials warned that restoration efforts could take days due to the scale of destruction.

Ukraine’s government accused Russia of deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure to increase pressure during the cold season. Energy officials said repeated strikes have weakened the resilience of the power grid, forcing rolling outages and emergency rationing in some areas.

The latest offensive comes amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to explore a possible end to the conflict, highlighting the gap between negotiations and realities on the ground. International partners have pledged additional support, including generators and technical assistance, to help Ukraine cope with the mounting energy crisis.
