President Bola Tinubu expressed his deep condolences following the death of Lieutenant-General Jeremiah Timbut Useni, who passed away at the age of 82. The announcement came in a statement released by the President’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, on Friday, acknowledging the significant contributions of Useni during his lifetime.

Useni, fondly remembered as a former minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), had a distinguished career in both the military and political spheres of Nigeria. President Tinubu highlighted Useni’s service as Governor of the old Bendel State, Minister of Transport, and Quarter-Master General of the Nigerian Army, underscoring his commitment and courage which served as an inspiration to many in the military.

In his statement, President Tinubu praised Useni for his dedication to national interests, which he exemplified throughout his career. This commitment, Tinubu noted, was not only evident in his military roles but also extended into his political life where he served as the deputy national chairman of the now-defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and later as a Senator representing the Plateau South Senatorial District.

This acknowledgment by the President not only honors a man who dedicated much of his life to public service but also reflects on the legacy left behind by individuals like Useni in shaping Nigeria’s military and political history. His passing marks the end of an era, but his contributions to national development will long be remembered.
