In response to a deadly terrorist attack in Niger State, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered top security officials to intensify efforts to capture those responsible and ensure swift justice. The attack on January 4, 2026, in Kasuwan Daji community, resulted in the deaths of at least 42 villagers and the kidnapping of various women and children.

Allegedly, the assailants were fleeing a U.S. airstrike in Sokoto and Zamfara states, leading to their assault on the village market in Kabe District, where nearly 40 individuals were killed.

President Tinubu has directed the Minister of Defence, Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, Inspector-General of Police, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services to track down the attackers. The President emphasized that these terrorists have tested the nation’s resolve and must be held accountable for their actions.

He also mandated security forces to urgently rescue the abducted victims and to ramp up operations in vulnerable communities, especially those near forested areas known to harbor criminals.

Condemning the attack, President Tinubu expressed his condolences to the victims’ families and urged Nigerians to remain united against this tragedy. He cautioned against divisive rhetoric that could weaken national security and cohesion during such a challenging time.

His directives reflect the government’s commitment to restoring peace and security in affected areas and holding perpetrators accountable. As security agencies mobilize to implement these orders, the nation stands in solidarity with the victims, reaffirming its determination to confront and eradicate terrorism in all its forms.
