President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated former senator and veteran Cross River politician, Senator Florence Ita Giwa, on her 80th birthday, praising her resilience, courage, and groundbreaking contributions to Nigerian politics.

In a statement issued on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President joined Ita Giwa’s family, friends, and well-wishers to celebrate her milestone while acknowledging her decades of public service.

Tinubu highlighted that Ita Giwa represented Cross River South Senatorial District in the Senate between 1999 and 2003, and held other significant public offices, including serving as National Republican Convention chairman for Delta State and being elected to the House of Representatives from 1992 to 1993.

The President commended her role in breaking political barriers for women, noting her steadfast advocacy for the Bakassi Peninsula, which earned her the popular nickname “Mama Bakassi.” Her dedication to this cause, he said, set an inspiring example for women in public service and political leadership.

Further, Tinubu lauded Ita Giwa’s contributions to policy formulation, law-making, and Nigeria’s broader democratic development, describing her political journey as a model of courage and resilience.

He wished the former senator continued good health, strength, and fulfillment as she marked her 80th birthday.
