The Presidency has responded to Senator Ali Ndume’s warning that Borno State and the entire North East could be overtaken by terrorists if the military is not adequately equipped.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, affirmed that the government has been equipping the armed forces to tackle terrorism. He emphasized that both the military and the civilian Joint Task Force JTF are actively conducting operations to protect the North East and Nigerians.

Onanuga advised Senator Ndume to provide any intelligence on planned terrorist activities directly to the military instead of raising public alarm. “I don’t know what purpose this alarm by Senator Ali Ndume really serves. If he has intelligence that terrorists are planning to the entire North East as a longtime senator he should pass the information to the military, not engage in scaremongering,” he said.

He added that the Tinubu administration is seeking international support from countries including the United States United Kingdom France and Turkey while also collaborating with Sahelian neighbours to strengthen regional security.

“Our armed forces and the civilian JTF are doing everything humanly possible in waging this guerrilla war against the terrorists to make the North East and the Nigerian people safe,” Onanuga said.

The Presidency’s response underscores the government’s commitment to national security and proactive measures in counterterrorism efforts. It also signals a call for public figures to support security operations responsibly and provide actionable intelligence to authorities rather than creating panic.

The Nigerian military continues to enhance its capabilities and work closely with regional and international partners to maintain ility and protect citizens in vulnerable areas of the country.
