Philippine environmental agencies issued a warning on February 1 2026 over rising coastal erosion risks as stronger storms sea level rise and human activity threaten shoreline communities. Authorities reported that erosion has damaged roads fishing facilities and protective barriers. Communities reliant on fishing and tourism face increasing vulnerability. The government said assessments are underway to identify high risk areas and prioritize interventions.

Experts linked the trend to climate ce driven sea level rise and intensified weather patterns. They urged a combination of nature based solutions such as mangrove restoration alongside engineered defenses where appropriate.
