Peter Obi’s Next Political Step Still Unknown as ADC Waits

There is still no clear word on whether Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, will join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

His spokesperson, Tanko Yunusa, said yesterday that “When he decides to move, he will say it by himself.” This has left many people guessing about Obi’s plans.

The ADC is working to build a strong team ahead of the 2027 elections. The party has already brought in big names like Atiku Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai, and Rotimi Amaechi. They hope to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the next election. Obi’s name has been linked to the group, but nothing is official yet.

Dr. Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, who ran with Obi in the last election, said Obi is still with the Labour Party. He made this clear during a recent Labour Party National Executive Council meeting. Even though the party is facing some problems, Baba-Ahmed said Obi has not left.

Earlier, ADC’s publicity secretary, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, mentioned that Obi and others were given time to finish up with their old parties before joining the ADC. For Obi, this included wrapping up matters related to the Anambra State governorship election.

Atiku and El-Rufai have already signed up with the ADC. But Obi’s move is still up in the air. Some people inside the Labour Party say they are not sure if he will actually leave.

This uncertainty has led to a lot of talk. Some political watchers are wondering what this means for both the Labour Party and the ADC. While Obi’s team has stayed quiet, Abdullahi insists that Obi is still part of the coalition and is expected to join once he finishes his current political tasks.
