Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has intensified efforts to build alliances in northern Nigeria as part of his preparations for the 2027 elections.

Obi recently met with influential northern figures, including Professor Ango Abdullahi, former Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University and Chairman of the Northern Elders Forum, in Zaria, and former military Head of State General Ibrahim Babangida in Minna.

In a post on X, Obi shared that his discussions with Abdullahi focused on Nigeria’s unity and practical strategies for national reconstruction. He emphasized the need for leadership to rise above divisions and address the country’s pressing challenges candidly.

During his visit to Zaria, Obi also engaged with graduating pilots at the airport, encouraging them to uphold discipline, integrity, and professionalism qualities he said are essential for Nigeria’s progress.

In Minna, Obi presented Babangida with an autographed copy of Growing Apart, a book comparing Indonesia’s success with Nigeria’s struggles, which Babangida had previously recommended. Their conversation covered topics such as national unity, security issues, and improving the welfare of Nigerian citizens.

Obi described these engagements as reinforcing his belief that honest dialogue is crucial for meaningful progress and reiterated his commitment to building “a New Nigeria.”
