Kano’s political landscape witnessed a significant change as 774 members of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing renewed faith in the ruling party’s leadership and developmental priorities.
The political realignment was marked by a formal reception held in Rimin Gado Local Government Area, where Alhaji Rabiu Bichi, Managing Director of the Hadejia-Jam’are River Basin Development Authority, welcomed the new entrants. He praised their move as a strategic and forward-thinking decision, emphasizing that the APC remains the most viable vehicle for national transformation.
Bichi described the defectors as fortunate to be joining a party he believes is delivering on its promises. He highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s infrastructure and social investment projects in Northern Nigeria as evidence of the administration’s dedication to progress.
He revealed that Kano State alone has benefited from over 18 completed federal projects worth billions of naira, underscoring the APC’s commitment to regional development. However, he expressed concern that some states were misallocating federal funds, diverting them from intended development purposes.
Bichi also pointed to the Renewed Hope Agenda as a catalyst for positive change, noting improvements in economic stability and food security through targeted agricultural initiatives. He assured the new members that they would be seamlessly integrated into the party’s structure and enjoy equal rights and opportunities.
Representing the group of defectors, Mohammad Karofin-Yashi explained that their decision was motivated by the visible progress under the APC government. He expressed confidence in the party’s ability to lead Kano and the nation toward a more prosperous future.
Karofin-Yashi also pledged to rally additional supporters, hinting that more NNPP members were preparing to follow suit in the coming weeks.
