The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has criticised the state government over the N3.69 billion Chief Reuben Fasoranti Park project, describing it as insensitive and a misplacement of priority amid prevailing economic challenges facing residents.

The state Chairman of the PDP, Mr Modupe Aisida, expressed the party’s position in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Akure. According to NAN, the Ondo State Government approved the sum in April 2025 for the upgrade and vertical enhancement of the park located directly opposite the Governor’s Office Complex in Alagbaka, Akure.

Aisida argued that the project would consume about one per cent of the total capital expenditure of the state’s 2026 budget, a decision he described as unjustifiable given the numerous pressing needs across the state. He questioned the rationale behind siting a relaxation park opposite the seat of government, which he described as a serious work environment rather than a leisure space.

He lamented the condition of public infrastructure across the state, citing dilapidated school buildings and poorly equipped health centres as areas that urgently require government attention. According to him, funds earmarked for the park should have been channelled into projects with direct and lasting impact on the lives of the people.

The PDP chairman also decried what he described as the neglect of critical development projects, stating that the Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa-led administration should focus on life-changing initiatives rather than what he termed “a mere relaxation centre.”

Aisida further raised concerns about the housing deficit in the state, accusing the government of failing to take proactive steps while private developers fill the gap. He criticised plans allegedly aimed at displacing civil servants from Alagbaka while proposing housing for political office holders.

He also expressed disappointment over the delay in completing the Shagari Estate flyover project, which he said has dragged on for over two years. Efforts to get a response from the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr Idowu Ajanaku, were unsuccessful as he was unavailable at the time of contact.
