Ondo State Governor, Dr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has declared that no government can legitimately claim success if it fails in its primary duty of protecting its people. Speaking at the passing-out parade of Batch 05 BR05 of the state security outfit Amotekun in Akure, the governor emphasised that no society can prosper in fear, nor can an economy thrive where lives and property are unsafe.
Describing the ceremony as symbolic, strategic and historic, Aiyedatiwa said the event marked a decisive moment in strengthening the state’s security architecture. He praised the newly recruited operatives for completing rigorous training, noting they arrived as civilians but were leaving as guardians of the homeland, ambassadors of lawful authority and custodians of community trust.
The governor highlighted that the decision to consistently invest in Amotekun was guided by strategic foresight rather than politics. He explained that the corps is community-rooted, intelligence-driven, law-guided and constitutionally aligned, designed to complement federal security agencies while responding effectively to local realities.
According to Aiyedatiwa, BR05 represents not just an increase in numbers but an upgrade in capacity and a reinforcement of doctrine to secure every corner of Ondo State. He outlined the comprehensive training undertaken by the operatives, including tactical operations, grassroots intelligence, inter-agency cooperation, rules of engagement, human rights and the Omoluabi values that define the people.
Amotekun Commander, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, reiterated that operatives are agents of the law and not above it, stressing that any indiscipline, abuse of power or collusion with criminals would attract institutional sanctions. He added that the corps complements existing security agencies and responds swiftly to modern security challenges, including banditry, kidnapping and communal clashes.
Governor Aiyedatiwa reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to Amotekun through welfare enhancements, improved equipment and continuous training, urging the operatives to serve with integrity, vigilance and respect for the law.
