The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, is set to officially launch a new federal initiative known as Energise Commercialisation Now in Kano State on April 23, 2026.
The programme, which runs from April 23 to April 25, is designed to promote innovation, attract investment, and accelerate industrial production across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. It forms part of the government’s broader push to strengthen the country’s innovation and manufacturing ecosystem.
The announcement was made by the Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, during a press briefing in Kano.
He explained that the initiative will position Kano State and the North West region as key players in Nigeria’s innovation driven economic transformation. According to him, the state has been selected to host the national launch as well as the zonal deployment of the programme.
The initiative is being implemented by the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology in collaboration with other stakeholders across government and the private sector.
Waiya noted that the event will feature a wide range of participants, including governors and first las from the North West, federal and state government representatives, research institutions, universities, polytechnics, innovators, startups, manufacturers, investors, and international development partners.
The three day programme will include a formal launch ceremony, a high level panel discussion on collaboration between federal and state governments, and an exhibition showcasing selected innovations from across the country.
Officials say the initiative is aimed at unlocking Nigeria’s creative and technological potential while improving pathways for commercialisation of local inventions and research outputs.
Supporters of the programme believe it could help bridge the gap between innovation and industry, while also creating new opportunities for youth employment and economic diversification.
If successfully implemented, Energise Commercialisation Now is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s industrial base and enhance the country’s competitiveness in innovation driven sectors.
