Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has appointed Afrinvest, a capital market investment firm, as its fundraising consultant to enhance its funding efforts and achieve financial independence.

This was revealed by John Azuta-Mbata, the president-general of the group, during the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide Imeobi meeting held at the International Conference Centre, Enugu, on Tuesday, where he also reviewed his first year in office.

Azuta-Mbata explained that the partnership with Afrinvest aims to professionalize Ohanaeze’s resource mobilization, unlock new funding opportunities, and reduce reliance on political office holders for financial support.

“To show financial sustainability and institutional growth, we have appointed Afrinvest as our fundraising consultant. Complementing this is our resolve to build a professionally managed media architecture that will project our values and communicate our positions effectively,” he said.

He emphasized the importance of controlling the narrative in today’s information-driven world, stating that commitment to the political and economic emancipation of the Igbo people is crucial.

On development initiatives, Azuta-Mbata announced the registration of two companies, Alaigbo Investment Company and Ndigbo Development Foundation, which are set to receive a N50 million take-off grant before the end of 2025.

He also highlighted Ohanaeze’s active involvement in national processes, including elections, which has strengthened the Igbo voice and positioned them as key stakeholders in Nigeria’s socioeconomic discussions.

In a spiritual and cultural move, Azuta-Mbata declared that every last Sunday in January, starting from 2026, will be observed as Igbo Thanksgiving Day. This initiative, coming from the Igbo College of Archbishops, Bishops, and Ohanaeze, is intended as a platform for gratitude, unity, and spiritual reflection.

Azuta-Mbata called for unity, collective vision, and commitment to excellence to build a strong institution for future generations of Igbos.

Members of Imeobi praised his leadership and achievements within his first year. The retired Anglican Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Emmanuel Chukwuma, commended Azuta-Mbata and urged Igbos to support his administration.

He also stressed the need for Ohanaeze’s financial independence and cautioned against individuals falsely claiming leadership positions, specifically mentioning one Mr. Isiguzoro.
