NUJ Bauchi Mourns Channels TV Cameraman Kani Ben After Fatal Accident

The Nigeria Union of Journalists Bauchi State Council has announced the death of Channels Television cameraman Kani Ben, nine days after he was involved in a motor accident while on official assignment.

The NUJ State Chairman, Umar Said, disclosed the sad development on Sunday while speaking with journalists in Bauchi. He described the late Ben as a dedicated professional who died from injuries sustained during the accident.

According to Said, the deceased was among journalists covering the commissioning and handover of projects executed by the North East Development Commission alongside the Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Maigari, when the incident occurred.

Meanwhile, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss. In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, the governor described the death as painful and heartbreaking.

Mohammed recounted that despite efforts by medical personnel to save Ben’s life, he passed away in the early hours of Sunday at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital.

The governor noted that the late cameraman died in active service and remained committed to his professional responsibility of keeping Nigerians informed. He commended Ben’s courage, dedication and strong sense of duty, saying these qualities were evident until his final moments.

Mohammed extended his condolences to the immediate family of the deceased, the management and staff of Channels Television, the NUJ and the entire media community.

He assured journalists of the state government’s continued respect and support, acknowledging the risks media professionals face daily in the line of duty.
