The Northern Lights are putting on a stunning display this Martin Luther King Jr. Day lighting up the skies across several U.S. states.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s(NOAA)Space Weather Prediction Center(SWPC)the aurora borealis will be visible starting Sunday January 19 and may continue into the following day in some regions.

Monday offers the best chance to catch this natural spectacle, as the aurora is expected to be strongest then and gradually fade later in the week.

While viewers at higher latitudes will have the clearest views, the unusually strong activity could allow the Northern Lights to be seen much farther south potentially as low as Alabama and northern California.
