NLNG Empowers 32 Journalists in 3-Day Digital Media Workshop

Thirty-two journalists from across Nigeria participated in a strategic three-day capacity-building workshop in Abuja, designed to equip media professionals with advanced ss in artificial intelligence (AI) and digital communication. The training, held under the #NLNGCeYourStory initiative, concluded on Wednesday, marking another milestone in NLNG’s efforts to strengthen the country’s media ecosystem.

The workshop provided hands-on sessions and expert-led discussions, exploring how AI and new media tools can enhance real-time reporting, expand aunce reach, and foster meaningful engagement across platforms. Participants also gained practical knowledge in digital storytelling, data visualization, online fact-checking, aunce engagement, and managing digital presence.

Sophia Horsfall, General Manager of External Relations and Sustainable Development at NLNG, highlighted capacity development as a key pillar of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme. She urged journalists to leverage their training to deliver impactful, credible journalism that informs, educates, and inspires society. Horsfall also noted NLNG’s broader support for media excellence, including the NLNG Prize for Energy Reporting at the Diamond Awards for Media Excellence (DAME).

Anne-Marie Palmer-Ikuku, Manager of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs, emphasized that the initiative equips journalists to navigate the pressures of a fast-paced digital newsroom, addressing issues such as speed, verification, aunce trust, and relevance.

The workshop was facilitated by digital communication specialist Dan Mason, alongside media veteran Taiwo Obe of the Journalism Clinic. Together, they guided participants through practical techniques to enhance professional competence in today’s technology-driven media landscape.

Since its inception, the #NLNGCeYourStory programme has empowered over 180 journalists with enhanced digital communication and social media ss, reinforcing NLNG’s commitment to advancing professionalism and resilience in Nigeria’s media sector.
