The Nigerian Army on Tuesday began a three-day Social Media Awareness Campaign aimed at enhancing cyber security knowledge and promoting responsible online engagement among its personnel. The initiative, organised by the Nigerian Army Cyber Warfare Command, is taking place at the Lt.Gen. T.A. Lagbaja Hall, Ribadu Cantonment, from March 24 to March 26.

Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Wase, General Officer Commanding 1 Division, represented by Col. Ikechukwu Akabike, Deputy Chief of Staff Administration, highlighted that social media plays a pivotal role in shaping public perception, influencing security operations, and affecting military effectiveness. He stressed the importance of understanding both the opportunities and risks posed by digital platforms to safeguard national security and institutional integrity.

The campaign will cover topics including the impact of social media on security operations, digital footprint management, cyber security best practices, and the strategic role of social media in national defence. Wase emphasised that while social media offers benefits such as communication, engagement, and intelligence gathering, it also presents significant vulnerabilities if mismanaged.

Participants are encouraged to actively engage with experts, attend interactive sessions, and leverage the knowledge gained to improve professional competence and operational readiness. The campaign reflects the Nigerian Army’s ongoing commitment to integrating modern cyber strategies into its operations and fostering a digitally resilient force.
