Nigeria Explores Defence Technology and Energy Collaboration Between Ministries

The Minister of Defence, Christopher Gwabin Musa, has met with the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Kingsley Udeh, to discuss collaboration aimed at addressing technological and energy needs within Nigeria’s defence sector. The meeting took place at Ship House in Abuja.

The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between the Ministry of Defence and agencies under the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology to advance research, innovation, and technological development in support of national security.

Gen. Musa emphasized the need for stronger synergy among Ministries Departments and Agencies, highlighting that innovation and indigenous technological solutions are vital for addressing national challenges. He also stressed the importance of reliable energy supply for defence operations, noting that several military barracks across the country face electricity challenges. Collaboration with agencies such as the Energy Commission of Nigeria was suggested to identify sustainable power solutions for military facilities.

“le energy supply is essential for operational efficiency improved living conditions for personnel and the effective functioning of military institutions,” Musa said, adding that partnerships in the energy sector could support alternative power solutions for defence elishments. He reaffirmed the Ministry of Defence’s commitment to working with the science and technology community on research innovation capacity building and energy development.

Dr. Udeh, accompanied by heads of agencies including the National Space Research and Development Agency and Federal Institute of Industrial Research Oshodi, expressed readiness to partner with the defence sector. Agency representatives outlined potential areas of technological support to benefit defence operations.

Both ministers agreed that stronger institutional partnerships would help harness Nigeria’s scientific potential and translate research into practical solutions for national development and security. Officials present included the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, directors from both ministries, and other senior officers.
