The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced robust revenue performance at its Apapa Area Port Command, collecting a total of N2.93 trillion in 2025, marking a 24.3 per cent increase from the N2.35 trillion recorded in 2024.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Isah Sulaiman, confirmed the achievement in a statement on Wednesday, noting that strategic leadership, disciplined personnel, and technology deployment under the guidance of Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi were key contributors to the growth.
Emmanuel Oshoba, Customs Area Controller at Apapa, highlighted the impact of the Unified Customs Management System (B’Odogwu) in enhancing transparency, efficiency, and accountability in cargo clearance. Trade facilitation initiatives, including the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) Programme and the expanded One-Stop Shop (OSS) initiative, also supported faster processing and release of compliant cargoes.
The command reported enforcement successes, intercepting 53 containers of illicit drugs and prohibited items with a duty-paid value of N12.6 billion. Some of these were handed over to agencies like the NDLEA and NAFDAC for prosecution.
Meanwhile, the Seme Area Command generated N15.5 billion in 2025, more than doubling its 2024 revenue of N7.1 billion. In December alone, Seme collected a record N3.6 billion, attributed to the OSS initiative and enhanced trade facilitation measures. The command also seized large quantities of cannabis, tramadol, and high-dosage sexual enhancement drugs.
Customs officials emphasised continued efforts to streamline operations, reduce checkpoints, and deploy intelligence-led enforcement to further protect Nigeria’s borders and boost revenue.
Both commands pledged ongoing engagement with stakeholders, including terminal operators, shipping companies, licensed agents, and freight forwarders, to maintain transparency, compliance, and efficient trade at the nation’s busiest ports.
