Nigeria and Russia to Forge Collaboration in Space Technology, Agriculture, and STEM

Nigeria is set to deepen its partnership with the Republic of Russia, focusing on Space Technology, Agriculture, and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) to bolster its socio-economic development. This announcement was made by Mrs. Esuabana Nko Asanye, the Permanent Secretary of Innovation, Science and Technology, during a courtesy visit from Russian diplomats in Abuja.

Mrs. Asanye emphasized the interconnected nature of scientific progress, stating, “Science does not operate in isolation, hence the need for nations to collaborate to strengthen Bilateral relationships.” She expressed Nigeria’s interest in sending scientific officers for training in Russia, particularly in space technology, hoping for sponsorship from the Russian government.

The meeting was attended by officials from the Embassy of the Russian Federation, led by Senior Counselor Sergei Pliushchov from the Trade and Economic Section. Pliushchov affirmed Russia’s readiness to collaborate, focusing on the training and re-training of Nigerian scientific experts to enhance productivity. He also mentioned ongoing initiatives where Russian online experts are helping to develop the technical skills of Nigerians in various fields.

This collaboration is seen as a mutual beneficial venture, with Russia showing keen interest in contributing to Nigeria’s development. The partnership aims to not only advance Nigeria’s capabilities in space technology but also to significantly impact agriculture and STEM education, thereby fostering innovation, research, and economic growth.
