Ndume Commends Tinubu for Sixty Eight Billion Naira Support for Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant

Former Senate Leader Ali Ndume has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving Sixty Eight Billion Naira operational support for the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant MEPP The funding is designed to improve electricity supply in Borno State and strengthen economic recovery in communities affected by insurgency

The financial support will be released in phases from March 2026 to December 2028 and is expected to reduce power shortages that have disrupted businesses and daily life in Maiduguri and surrounding areas Ndume said the initiative will enhance productivity and encourage growth of small and medium enterprises across the state

He expressed gratitude to the President while speaking in Abuja on Monday and noted that le electricity remains essential for economic development and security ility He added that improved power supply will help create jobs and reduce vulnerability among young people who might otherwise be exposed to criminal recruitment

Ndume also stated that a stronger electricity network will support military operations in the region by improving communication systems and logistics He urged citizens to protect power infrastructure and work with security agencies to prevent vandalism and sabotage of critical installations

He called on both federal and state authorities to ensure proper maintenance and monitoring of the project so that the benefits can be sustained over time According to him protecting public infrastructure is a shared responsibility that requires vigilance from communities

The former Senate leader further emphasized that reliable electricity will improve healthcare services education and small business performance in Borno State He described the intervention as a major step toward rebuilding the region and restoring normal economic life
