Former presidential aspirant Mohammed Hayatu-Deen has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party and joined the African Democratic Congress, citing worsening insecurity, rising cost of living, and concerns over shrinking democratic space in Nigeria.

In a statement released on Sunday, Hayatu Deen said his decision was driven by the need for a credible political alternative capable of addressing Nigeria’s deep economic and security challenges ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He noted that the PDP has been embroiled in internal crises at the national level, leading to the exit of several key members, governors, and political stakeholders to either the ruling party or opposition coalitions.

Hayatu Deen said he intends to deploy his decades of experience in business, finance, and economic reform to support the ADC’s mission, stressing that the party represents a vehicle for national renewal.

ADC Crisis Raises Fresh Concerns Over Nigeria Democratic Future

According to him, Nigerians are increasingly demanding a government that focuses on security, job creation, and economic ility rather than political distractions. He added that many citizens feel disappointed by unmet expectations since the 2022 political cycle.

He also raised concerns about what he described as a shrinking democratic space, warning that opposition voices are being weakened and institutional balance is under pressure. He emphasized that democracy must provide real choices for citizens to ensure accountability.

Reflecting on his career, Hayatu Deen said he has led major corporate and economic reforms, contributed to job creation, and supported education initiatives for children affected by insecurity. He pledged to bring that experience into active politics.

He concluded by declaring his commitment to campaign vigorously for the ADC, saying he believes the party can deliver a safer and more prosperous Nigeria if given the mandate in 2027.
