The Chief of Staff to Gov. Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra, Chief Ernest Ezeajughi, praised the media for helping to make the Nov. 8 governorship election in the state run smoothly and successfully.

Ezeajughi, speaking through the Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor, gave this praise at the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, during their end-of-year event in Awka.

He called the Correspondents’ Chapel an important partner in the state government’s efforts to find solutions. He said the media played a big role by giving responsible and fair reports, especially before the election. “The media constituency is important to the Solution Government in Anambra and we should continue to sustain this healthy relationship. You did not suppress the truth; rather, you went beyond mere reporting. Your objective reportage, particularly in the build-up to the governorship election, enabled residents to make responsible choices on who to vote for. Your efforts also contributed to the peaceful atmosphere the state enjoyed before, during and after the election,” he added.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ikioye Orutugu, also praised the media for working with the police to keep the state safe during and after the election. “You contributed significantly to the level of security enjoyed during and after the election and even now in the Yuletide season through your reportage,” Orutugu said.

The Governor’s Press Secretary, Mr Christian Aburime, promised that the state government would keep building a strong relationship with the Correspondents’ Chapel. “We do not take your role for granted. You have projected Gov. Soludo’s policies effectively and he is gaining recognition across the world,” Aburime said.

  • I think the media played a crucial role in promoting peace during the Anambra election. Their positive coverage of Soludos governance is commendable.

  • Im not convinced that the media deserves all the credit. Lets not overlook the role of the people in maintaining peace and good governance.

  • I disagree, media coverage can be biased. Lets not forget to question their motives and dig deeper. Peaceful election, yes, but lets stay critical.

  • Im not convinced. Media bias can distort reality. How do we know if theyre truly supporting peace or just painting a rosy picture?

  • Hmm, Im not sure if the media coverage really had that big of an impact on the peaceful election. What do you think?
