Makinde Calls for National Unity as He Celebrates Peace in Oyo During Eid

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has called for stronger national cohesion, stressing that unity across religious and cultural divides remains essential for Nigeria’s ility and progress.

Delivering his Eid message to the Muslim Ummah through his deputy Adebayo Lawal at the Agodi Eid praying ground in Ibadan, the governor attributed the sustained peace in Oyo State to the collective prayers of its people.

Makinde noted that the prayers and spiritual devotion of residents have played a key role in maintaining harmony and ility in the state. He added that the peaceful atmosphere currently enjoyed in Oyo should serve as a model for the rest of the country.

According to him sustainable development can only thrive where there is peace mutual respect and a shared commitment to the common good. He urged Nigerians to look beyond ethnic and religious differences and embrace unity as a foundation for national growth.

The Eid prayer session was led by Abubakar Agbotomokekere who guided worshippers through the rites marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

After the prayers the delegation visited the governor’s residence in Ikolaba where they were received by his wife Tamunomini Makinde who represented him. She reinforced the message of unity across all faiths describing it as a major driver of peace and development in the state.

She also reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to preserving peace and seeking divine guidance in governance.

In his remarks Deputy Governor Lawal expressed gratitude for the unity and progress recorded in the state over the past year noting that the government remains focused on building a peaceful and prosperous society.
