London City Lionesses have made headlines in their inaugural Women’s Super League (WSL) season by signing French international Grace Geyoro from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for a record fee of £1.4 million ($1.89 million). This transfer makes Geyoro, a 28-year-old midfielder, the most expensive female footballer in history. This transfer marks the fourth time in 2025 that the women’s transfer fee record has been broken, following Chelsea’s acquisition of Naomi Girma for £900,000, Arsenal’s signing of Olivia Smith for £1 million, and Orlando Pride’s Lizbeth Ovalle for $1.5 million.

Geyoro has had a distinguished international career, with 103 caps and 22 goals for France, including participation in two World Cups, two UEFA Women’s Championships, and the upcoming 2024 Olympics. She spent her entire club career at PSG, accumulating over 270 appearances and scoring 54 goals. London City’s aggressive recruitment strategy is backed by billionaire owner Michele Kang, and Geyoro is the club’s 16th permanent signing this season, joining notable players like Jana Fernández, Daniëlle van de Donk, and Katie Zelem.

Head coach Jocelyn Prêcheur, who previously coached Geyoro at PSG, expressed enthusiasm about her signing, highlighting her experience as a key asset to the team. The Lionesses are set to make their WSL debut against defending Champions League holders Arsenal, and Geyoro’s leadership is anticipated to be crucial as they begin this new chapter in English football. The ambitious transfer reflects London City’s intent to compete at the highest level in women’s football.
