Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, may consider returning to the All Progressives Congress (APC) but only if the party makes serious changes.

This possibility follows what has been described as a surprising reconciliation between Kwankwaso and former APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

During a press briefing at the NNPP headquarters in Kano, party chairman Hashim Dungurawa said Kwankwaso remains committed to democratic values and is open to participating in the 2027 elections. However, he stressed that any move toward the APC would require genuine political dialogue and a fair agreement.

Dungurawa noted that the APC has been actively trying to bring Kwankwaso back, recognizing his strong influence in Kano politics. He claimed that no other APC figure has the same ability to win the state.

Commenting on the recent meeting between Kwankwaso and Ganduje, as well as Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s interaction with Ganduje, Dungurawa said these were simply chance encounters and not part of any formal political deal.

He also addressed the recent defections of NNPP lawmakers to the APC, admitting the party was disappointed but confident that those who left would struggle to find their footing in the new environment.

Dungurawa concluded by saying the NNPP will stay true to its principles and won’t be pressured into decisions that don’t align with its values.
