Kogi Government Pledges Continued Support to NBC in Resolving Boundary Issues

The Kogi State government has assured the National Boundary Commission (NBC) of its ongoing partnership and support in addressing boundary disputes within the state.

Deputy Governor Joel Salifu, who also serves as Chairman of the Kogi State Boundary Committee, made the assurance during a working visit by the NBC management to his office in Lokoja on Wednesday. The delegation was led by the NBC Director-General, Mr. Adamu Adaji.

Salifu described the visit as timely, noting that Kogi shares boundaries with about ten neighbouring states, making effective boundary management critical for peace and development. He assured the commission of the government’s commitment to collaborating on initiatives aimed at resolving disputes and promoting harmonious relations among border communities.

In his address, Adaji highlighted plans by the commission to organise a stakeholders’ workshop involving Kogi and its neighbouring states. The workshop is intended to address boundary-related issues, enhance cooperation, and ensure accurate delineation of state borders.

Adaji also emphasised the role of state and local boundary committees in sensitising communities and providing crucial data for effective boundary management. He urged stronger collaboration between the NBC and Kogi State to achieve sustainable solutions.

The NBC Director-General commended the Kogi government for its sustained commitment to boundary matters, describing the partnership as key to resolving disputes and fostering peaceful coexistence along state borders.

The visit underscores the ongoing efforts by both federal and state authorities to proactively address boundary challenges in Nigeria, ensuring ility and effective governance in border areas.
