The Kano State Police Command has intercepted suspected explosive materials and illicit drugs in two separate security operations across metropolitan local government areas of the state. The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday in Kano by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa.

According to the statement, police officers attached to the Rijiyar Lemo Police Division, acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, executed a search warrant on Monday at a residence in Tudun Bojuwa Quarters, Fagge Local Government Area. During the operation, officers discovered two large sacks containing suspected incriminating materials.

Kiyawa said experts from the command’s Explosive Ordinance Disposal, Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) unit were deployed to examine the items. One sack was found to contain six rolls of detonating cords, while the second contained 20 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa and 220 sachets of suspected Exol tablets. He added that investigations into the discovery were ongoing.

In a separate operation, officers from the Anti-Thuggery Unit, acting on intelligence-led surveillance, intercepted a commercial tricycle rider at Sani Mainagge Quarters in Gwale Local Government Area. The rider was found conveying three bags containing suspected heavy materials.

Following expert analysis by the EOD-CBRN unit, the materials were identified as 3,700 pieces of electric detonators. The tricycle rider later led police to the arrest of a suspect, Ibrahim Garba, also known as “Manyan Baki,” aged 49, from Zamfara State. The suspect reportedly confessed to facilitating the movement of the materials from Nasarawa State to other destinations.

Kiyawa stated that the command has launched an intensive investigation to uncover those behind the illegal movement of the items. The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, commended the officers involved and urged residents to remain vigilant.

The police advised members of the public to promptly report suspicious movements or items and warned against touching any unidentified objects, urging people to keep a safe distance and alert security agencies immediately.
