Israeli forces intensified military operations surrounding Gaza City, utilizing airstrikes and tank shelling that resulted in significant destruction of buildings and homes. Continuous explosions were reported in neighborhoods like Zeitoun and Shejaia, with tanks targeting houses and roads in Sabra, and multiple buildings demolished in Jabalia. The Israeli military claims these actions are aimed at dismantling militant tunnels to prevent Hamas from re-establishing operations in the region. Defense Minister Israel Katz stated the campaign will continue until Hamas ceases its hostilities and releases hostages.

This offensive has triggered widespread panic and displacement among civilians. Many families have fled to other areas of Gaza City or the overcrowded southern coastal strip of Mawasi, which is ill-equipped to handle the influx. However, some residents remain, citing a lack of resources and a determination to stay in their homes despite the ongoing violence.

Humanitarian conditions in Gaza City have drastically worsened, with famine officially declared. The Gaza Health Ministry reports at least 289 deaths due to starvation, including 115 children, although Israel disputes these figures, blaming Hamas for the dire situation.
