A mass ing at Bondi Beach in Sydney shocked Australia and the world. The occurred during a Hanukkah celebration called “Chanukah by the Sea,” where families and visitors had gathered in the late afternoon and early evening. Police say multiple gunmen opened fire on the crowd, causing widespread panic as people fled for cover.

Authorities have confirmed at least 11–12 people were ed, including victims and at least one of the ers, and dozens more were injured, among them children and police officers. A second alleged er is in critical condition in hospital, and police are investigating the possible involvement of others. Responders also found suspected improvised explosive devices near the scene, which were removed by specialist teams.

New South Wales Police confirmed there is no longer an active threat, but the area remains cordoned off as investigations continue and forensic work progresses.
