The Igbo Presidency Project IPP has called for a move away from handouts toward genuine political inclusion for the South East following a controversial empowerment event in Owerri Imo State. The programme organized by the City Boys Movement ended in chaos as participants rushed to collect distributed items, creating scenes that have drawn widespread criticism.

In a statement signed by its National Coordinator Chinedu Nsofor, the group stressed that the Igbo people are not seeking temporary giveaways but a fair opportunity to produce the next president of Nigeria. According to the statement, the focus on empowerment materials reflects a misunderstanding of the region’s socio economic identity.

IPP highlighted that the South East is widely known for its strong culture of enterprise trade and private sector resilience. It noted that many households depend on business activities and industry for survival rather than palliative support. The group argued that such handouts do little to address the deeper needs of the people.

The organization questioned why resources were spent on distributing campaign related items instead of investing in industries infrastructure and development projects. It emphasized that sustainable employment opportunities for young people should be the priority in any meaningful engagement with the region.

IPP also described the images of people struggling over items as unfortunate and damaging to the dignity of the South East. It maintained that such spectacles do not represent the values of productivity and entrepreneurship associated with the region.

The group concluded by reiterating its call for justice fairness and inclusive governance, insisting that true progress lies in equitable representation and leadership at the national level.
