Ikeja Electric Apologises to Customers Over Ongoing Power Supply Disruptions

Electricity distribution company Ikeja Electric has apologised to customers over the ongoing power supply disruptions affecting several areas within its network. The company attributed the situation to gas supply constraints that are currently limiting electricity generation on the National Grid of Nigeria.

In a public notice issued on Friday the management of Ikeja Electric acknowledged the inconvenience the disruption has caused to residents and businesses. The company expressed regret over the situation and assured customers that efforts are being made by stakeholders in the power sector to resolve the challenge.

According to the statement the power interruption is linked to difficulties affecting electricity generation capacity on the national grid. The shortage of gas supply to thermal power plants has reduced the amount of electricity that can be generated which has led to increased load shedding across several feeders within the Ikeja Electric network.

The company explained that it understands the impact the situation may be having on the daily activities of customers including homes offices and small businesses. It therefore appealed for patience while steps are being taken to ilise electricity supply.

Ikeja Electric also reassured customers that relevant authorities and stakeholders in the electricity sector are working to address the generation shortfall and improve supply across the country. The company said it is closely monitoring the situation and will continue to provide updates to customers as improvements occur.

Meanwhile the Nigerian Independent System Operator recently revealed that electricity generation in Nigeria dropped below the 4000 megawatt level due to persistent gas supply shortages affecting thermal power plants nationwide.

As of early Thursday morning the national grid reportedly generated about 3940.53 megawatts of electricity reflecting the ongoing fuel supply challenges that continue to affect power generation across the country.

Ikeja Electric thanked customers for their patience cooperation and understanding during this period while assuring them that restoring le electricity supply remains a top priority.
