The Association of Igbo Residents in Ibadan has reaffirmed its support for Seyi Makinde, cautioning against what it described as coordinated political moves capable of deilizing Oyo State, particularly amid the controversy surrounding the revered Olubadan stool.

Speaking at a press conference in Ibadan, the group expressed concern over recent political developments and comments allegedly made by Ayo Fayose. The association warned that such interventions could disrupt the peace and steady progress currently enjoyed in the state.

Addressing journalists, Barrister Ndo Ofurenna praised the Makinde administration for its inclusive governance and commitment to development across key sectors. He noted that the government’s performance in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and agriculture has earned widespread public confidence.

The group criticized Fayose’s involvement in Oyo politics, describing it as undue interference by someone without constitutional authority in the state. It further alleged that Fayose may be working alongside Nyesom Wike and other political actors to undermine Makinde’s administration, particularly by amplifying disputes linked to the Olubadan stool.

Emphasizing the cultural and traditional significance of the institution, the association described the Olubadan stool as sacred and warned against its politicization. It stressed that traditional institutions should not be exploited for personal or partisan interests.

The group also dismissed claims of an impeachment plot against the governor, describing them as baseless distractions aimed at creating unnecessary tension. It maintained that Makinde continues to enjoy strong support among residents.

Calling for calm, the association urged citizens to ignore divisive narratives and remain committed to unity and peaceful coexistence. It also appealed to leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party to address internal issues and caution members against inflammatory statements.

Reiterating its stance, the association pledged continued support for Makinde while advocating peace, ility, and sustained development in Oyo State.
