Human resource professionals and health experts are set to gather in Lagos on Thursday to deliberate on workplace wellness, wellbeing and employee welfare at a one-day conference focused on Employee Assistance Programmes (EAPs).
The conference, sponsored by Chevron Nigeria Limited in collaboration with Sages and Scribes Consultants, aims to examine how EAPs can be effectively deployed to improve staff wellbeing and enhance workplace productivity across organisations.
According to a statement released on Tuesday, the mini conference will bring together HR professionals, workplace counsellors, wellness practitioners and occupational health experts to explore the growing relevance of EAPs in addressing the mental, emotional and social needs of employees in today’s work environment.
A psychologist, executive coach and workplace counsellor, Dr Laila St Matthew Daniels, is expected to deliver the keynote address titled “The EAP Ecosystem: The Values and Benefits.” Her presentation will focus on the holistic role of EAPs in fostering healthier work environments and supporting organisational performance.
Speaking ahead of the event, the Managing Director of Sages and Scribes Consultants, Venerable Adelowo Adesina, described Employee Assistance Programmes as a vital tool for improving employee performance and organisational outcomes.
“Employee assistance is about employees’ wellness, wellbeing and welfare. The core of EAP is employees’ wellness for productivity and performance,” Adesina said. He added that the conference would examine the full EAP ecosystem, ranging from prevention and early intervention to counselling, crisis response and integration with organisational policies.
Adesina noted that participants would be exposed to best practices in implementing EAPs for measurable organisational impact, highlighting benefits for employers, employees and the wider society. He disclosed that participation in the conference would be free and accessible both physically and virtually.
The programme will feature expert presentations, interactive workshops, panel discussions and stakeholder meetings. Key focus areas include demonstrating the business case for EAPs, return on investment, reduced absenteeism, improved productivity, ethical standards in service delivery, digital innovation, crisis preparedness and case studies from local and international organisations.
Organisers said a stakeholders’ meeting would also explore ways to strengthen EAP practice, workplace wellness and employee welfare in Nigeria.
