Gospel Singer Bunmi Akinnaanu, ‘Omije Ojumi’ Crooner, Dies in Lagos

Nigerian gospel singer Bunmi Akinnaanu, popularly known for her inspirational hit song Omije Ojumi, has passed away. Her death was announced on Tuesday in a brief statement shared on Instagram by fellow gospel artiste, Ayo Melody, on behalf of her family.

According to the statement, Akinnaanu died on January 12, 2026, at a hospital in Lagos. The post, which was accompanied by a photograph of the late singer and a video showing her remains, expressed deep sorrow over her passing and prayed for her eternal rest.

“With great sadness, we announce the passing of Evangelist Olubunmi Akinnaanu Adeoye (Omije Ojumi), who passed away on 12th January, 2026 at a Lagos hospital, Nigeria. May God grant her eternal rest,” the statement read in part.

Her death comes months after she publicly appealed for prayers and divine healing while battling a serious leg ailment. In October 2025, a video of the gospel singer during a church service at G.F. David Ministries in Ibadan, Oyo State, went viral on social media. In the footage, Akinnaanu was seen seated with her affected leg stretched on a chair as a pastor prayed for her, drawing widespread sympathy, prayers, and encouragement from fans and fellow gospel musicians.

Bunmi Akinnaanu was known for her deeply emotional and spirit-filled songs, with Omije Ojumi resonating strongly with worshippers across Nigeria and beyond. Her music often reflected themes of faith, perseverance, and total dependence on God, earning her a devoted following within the gospel music community.

She reportedly began singing at a young age and later made the bold decision to leave a banking career to pursue gospel music full-time. Her passing has left a void in the Nigerian gospel music scene, with colleagues and admirers mourning the loss of a voice many described as sincere and anointed.
