Former Liverpool Star Says Jurgen Klopp “Would Love” England Job, Predicts Move to International Management

John Arne Riise, former Liverpool player, believes that Jurgen Klopp “would love” to become the England national team manager and expects the German coach to move into international football next.

Klopp, who stepped down as Liverpool manager at the end of the 2023–24 season, has left a lasting legacy at Anfield, having won every major trophy including the 2020 Premier League title that ended Liverpool’s 30-year wait for the league crown.

Riise told Casinostugan in an interview that Klopp’s next role would likely be with a national team rather than a club, as managing a national side is less intense. “If he does come back, I think he’ll come back as a national team manager somewhere. I don’t think he’s going to be a manager for a club. I think he would love the England job at one stage,” Riise said.

He acknowledged Klopp’s immense success at Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool, suggesting that Klopp may be content with his achievements and prefer a less demanding role. “His legacy now is high. He’s done so well for Dortmund and for Liverpool, and I can’t see that he can do even better at another club,” Riise added.

Riise also highlighted the toll Klopp’s Liverpool job took on him mentally and physically, noting that Klopp gave everything to the role. Since leaving Liverpool, Klopp has taken a senior strategic position with the Red Bull group, overseeing a network of clubs rather than managing day-to-day matches.

This perspective fuels speculation that Klopp’s next chapter could be leading a national team, with England seen as a particularly attractive option.
