Kirk was speaking about gun violence when he was shot by an assailant using a Mauser .30-caliber bolt-action rifle from a rooftop, fatally wounding him in the neck before fleeing into nearby woods. Investigators have recovered a high-powered rifle and are analyzing forensic evidence, including a palm print and shoe impressions, while surveillance footage shows the shooter escaping into a neighborhood.
