The European Commission approved new emergency aid on January 30 aimed at supporting refugees and internally displaced people in Ukraine and neighboring Moldova as the conflict driven humanitarian crisis continues. The funding package will assist with shelter, medical care, food supplies, and winter support for vulnerable populations.
Commission officials said the assistance responds to sustained displacement and the added strain of cold weather conditions, particularly in rural areas and border regions. Moldova has continued to host a large number of refugees relative to its population, placing pressure on public services and local communities.
Humanitarian organizations welcomed the decision, noting that funding gaps remain significant as needs increase. European Union leaders reiterated commitments to long term support while urging international partners to maintain aid flows during the winter period.
