Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle is set to undergo further technical training with top European clubs while continuing his role as Nigeria’s national team manager. The development was confirmed by former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president Amaju Pinnick following Nigeria’s third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Pinnick disclosed that plans are already in motion for the Franco-Malian tactician to embark on internship programmes at elite European clubs as part of efforts to further enhance his technical and tactical expertise. According to him, the initiative is aimed at strengthening Chelle’s capacity despite his impressive achievements with the national team.
Speaking on the plan, Pinnick revealed that he has held discussions with FIFA’s Chief of Global Football Development, Arsene Wenger, as well as officials of the NFF, to ensure the arrangement is executed smoothly.
While praising Chelle’s work, Pinnick noted that continuous learning remains essential, even for top professionals, stressing that the proposed internships would provide valuable additions to the coach’s football philosophy and technical depth.
NFF president Ibrahim Gusau has also publicly endorsed Chelle, commending the 48-year-old for transforming the Super Eagles within a year of his appointment in January 2024. Gusau described Chelle as a hardworking and capable leader, pledging the federation’s continued support.
Under Chelle, Nigeria have enjoyed a remarkable run, going unbeaten in regulation time across 17 competitive matches, with 11 wins and six draws. At the 2025 AFCON, the Super Eagles scored a record 14 goals, their highest tally in a single tournament, while remaining unbeaten in regulation time throughout the competition.
Gusau emphasised that the team must quickly turn its attention to future challenges, including preparations for the next AFCON qualifiers beginning in March. He expressed optimism about the squad’s depth, noting that several key players missed the tournament due to injury.
Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi also backed Chelle to remain in charge, highlighting the importance of ility and continuity as Nigeria prepares for upcoming competitions. With growing support from administrators and players alike, Chelle’s future with the Super Eagles appears firmly secured.
