Ecobank Reports 29% Rise in Profit After Tax to N950bn in 2025

Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI) has posted a 29 per cent increase in profit after tax, reaching N950.0 billion for the financial year ended December 31, 2025. The growth was driven by higher interest income and non-interest revenue, according to the bank’s Condensed Consolidated Unaudited Financial Statements filed on the Nigerian Exchange Limited.

The pan-African banking group recorded a 14 per cent rise in gross earnings to N4.82 trillion, while total revenue grew 18 per cent to N3.67 trillion. Profit before tax climbed 30 per cent to N1.28 trillion from N986.7 billion in 2024, and operating profit before impairment charges rose 29 per cent to N1.89 trillion.

Net interest income increased 22 per cent to N2.14 trillion, supported by a 15 per cent growth in interest income to N3.18 trillion, while interest expense edged up 4 per cent to N1.04 trillion. Non-interest revenue strengthened by 13 per cent to N1.53 trillion, driven by a 17 per cent rise in fee and commission income to N1.03 trillion and a 14 per cent growth in trading income and foreign exchange gains to N559.36 billion.

However, other operating income declined 22 per cent to N68.6 billion, and net losses on investment securities widened to N10.98 billion. Impairment charges on financial assets rose 28 per cent to N613.26 billion. Despite these setbacks, operating profit after impairment increased 30 per cent to N1.28 trillion.

The bank’s total assets grew 14 per cent to N49.44 trillion, while loans and advances to customers rose 11 per cent to N17.09 trillion, and customer deposits increased 15 per cent to N36.45 trillion. Total equity strengthened 50 per cent to N4.17 trillion, largely driven by retained earnings, with equity attributable to ordinary shareholders rising to N2.91 trillion from N1.75 trillion. Total liabilities increased to N45.27 trillion.

Ecobank operates in 34 African countries and multiple international financial centres, serving over 32 million customers across consumer, commercial, corporate, and investment banking segments.
