Former Minister of Finance, Dr. Kalu Idika Kalu, has called on the Igbo community to take full advantage of the ongoing membership registration and join the All Progressives Congress (APC) in large numbers. Speaking at his home in Ohafia, Abia State, over the weekend, Dr. Kalu emphasised that the party is where the Ndi Igbo should “pitch their tent” to ensure representation at all levels of governance.

“When they were gathering to set up the APC years ago, I told some of our people: Ndi Igbo should be there. They deserve to be there. They have earned their right to be at the high table,” he said. The former minister made the remarks while hosting House of Representatives Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu and other APC leaders.

Dr. Kalu also praised the legislative strides of Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, describing his contributions to national development as a source of pride for the Igbo community. He highlighted his readiness to continue contributing to the development of Abia State and Nigeria through advice and active participation, regardless of his age.

In response, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu lauded Dr. Kalu’s legacy, recalling his integrity, dedication, and service to the nation, including his tenure as a presidential aspirant in 2003. He described the elder statesman as a role model for all public servants, noting that his name commands respect and recognition nationally and internationally.

The Deputy Speaker presented Dr. Kalu with a brochure detailing his legislative achievements over the past two years, praying for his continued health and long life. The event reinforced the importance of mentorship, experience, and active engagement in national and party affairs, while highlighting the need for Ndi Igbo participation in Nigeria’s political landscape.
