The immediate past deputy governor of Enugu State, Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo, has downplayed the political threat posed by the formation of the “Village Boys,” a support group backing Mr. Peter Obi of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The “Village Boys” was established by opposition political groups under the Obident movement to counter the “City Boys Movement,” which supports President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by the Asiwaju Renewed Mandate South East (ARMSE) in Enugu, Ezeilo stated that the people of Enugu State would not be intimidated by opposition maneuvers. She emphasised that Governor Peter Mbah deserves a second term based on his achievements in infrastructure, health, and education.

“This visit shows that your group wants to appreciate justice and you should keep it up. Nobody will intimidate us with the Village Boys,” she said.

ARMSE leader Denge Josef Onoh underscored the importance of maintaining the governorship in the Enugu East zone in line with zonal rotation, warning against electing a governor outside the region, which could disrupt the state’s political balance.

He added, “We are part of the City Boys and we are also Village Boys. We are for equity, justice, and fairness. We look at the benefit of democracy for humanity,” while urging support for Governor Mbah’s reelection.

The visit reflects ongoing efforts by political groups in Enugu State to rally support for the reelection of Governor Mbah, highlighting the significance of performance-based politics and the principle of zonal rotation in maintaining political stability in the state.
