Cambodia’s banking sector has recorded modest growth in lending alongside a notable surge in deposits following 2025, according to recent industry reports and central bank data. The figures point to growing public confidence in the financial system even as credit expansion remains cautious amid regional and global economic uncertainties.

Banking officials said loan growth has been steady but restrained, reflecting tighter risk management by lenders and a focus on maintaining financial stability. Credit activity has continued mainly in sectors such as trade, agriculture and small and medium sized enterprises, while banks remain careful about exposure to real estate and high risk projects.

In contrast, deposits have risen sharply, supported by higher household savings, increased business liquidity and continued trust in regulated financial institutions. Analysts note that improved digital banking services and broader financial inclusion have also encouraged more customers to place funds within the formal banking system.

The National Bank of Cambodia has emphasized the importance of balanced growth, encouraging banks to support economic activity while maintaining adequate capital buffers. Experts say the combination of rising deposits and measured lending positions Cambodia’s banking sector to better absorb shocks and support sustainable growth in the years ahead.
