President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, has revealed that Nigerian Afrobeats star and Grammy winner, Burna Boy, encountered unexpected difficulties on arrival at a Moroccan airport ahead of his performance at the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Fan Zone concert in Rabat.

Motsepe made the disclosure during a recent press conference, explaining that Burna Boy was briefly held by customs officials over concerns related to his jewellery.

According to the CAF president, the issue arose after customs officers noticed the singer’s heavy gold jewellery. He said the situation was resolved peacefully following his personal intervention.

“Recently I was called that I needed to intervene because Burna Boy was stopped at the airport after customs officers noticed his heavy and beautiful gold jewellery. I intervened and it was resolved,” Motsepe said.

Burna Boy went on to headline the AFCON Fan Zone concert in Rabat on January 16.

The event also featured performances from Ghanaian singer Stonebwoy, alongside Moroccan artistes Stormy and Jaylann.
