Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo has praised Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s decision to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), calling it a big political win that strengthens the party’s presence in Nigeria’s South-South region.

In an interview, Keyamo compared the defection to an unexpected success. “We aimed to catch a frog but ended up catching an elephant—that elephant is Sir Siminalayi Fubara. We warmly welcome him into the APC, the largest party in Africa, and into the progressive fold,” he said.

Keyamo confirmed he was present when Fubara officially registered as a member and thanked the president for his efforts. “I was there this morning when you were issued your membership card. On behalf of the South-South, we appreciate Mr. President for his efforts toward Rivers State and the region. Since 2015, this has never been better. Today, we hold six out of six positions for the ruling party in the South-South,” he added.

He also explained that the defection marks a return to Rivers State’s usual political connection with the federal government. He called the period from 2015 until now an exception and praised the governor for bravely choosing to realign the state with the center.

  • I dont see why defection should be celebrated. Its all just political drama. Lets focus on real issues, not party hopping.

  • I dont see how celebrating a political defection benefits the people. Shouldnt we focus on policies that actually improve lives?

  • I dont buy into the hype. Politics is a game of switching sides for personal gain, not a win for the people.

  • Im not convinced that party defections are a win for the people. Loyalty should be to the electorate, not to a political party.

  • I dont see how celebrating a political defection can be considered a major win for the region. What about principles and values?

  • Wow, celebrating a political defection as a major win for a region? Seems like a stretch, but hey, politics is always full of surprises!
