Nigeria’s largest container terminal, APM Terminals Apapa, has reported a significant growth in its non-oil export volumes over the past four years. The terminal’s half-year (H1) export figures for 2024 reached 51,000 Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs), marking a 25% increase compared to 47,000 TEUs during the same period in 2023.
Steen Knudsen, Terminal Manager at APM Terminals Apapa, highlighted the importance of non-oil export cargo to the terminal’s operations. He noted that the terminal has experienced steady growth in this sector, with export volumes increasing from 53,000 TEUs in 2020 to 94,000 TEUs in 2023—a remarkable 32% rise from the previous year.
Knudsen emphasized that the consistent upward trajectory in non-oil exports underscores the terminal’s role in boosting Nigeria’s export capacity. The data illustrates a robust growth pattern, with annual increases reflecting the terminal’s capacity to handle and facilitate a growing volume of non-oil exports.
The rise in export volumes aligns with broader efforts to diversify Nigeria’s economy and enhance its trade performance. As APM Terminals Apapa continues to expand its operations, the terminal remains a key player in supporting Nigeria’s non-oil export sector and contributing to the country’s economic development.
