APC Insists ADC Has No Real Chance in Lagos State

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has told the African Democratic Congress that it stands no realistic chance of winning elections in the state. The message came from Mogaji Seye Oladejo, the APC spokesman in Lagos, who warned that Lagos is not open to inexperienced political actors.

Oladejo called the ADC’s claim to control Lagos a “political fantasy,” and said the party’s sudden talk of winning the state is not credible given its weak local presence. He noted that a group that struggles to hold a proper ward meeting is now asking the public for help to seize control of a state widely seen as a national model for governance and innovation.

In a statement he signed Oladejo wrote: “Let it be stated clearly: Lagos is not a laboratory for political apprentices. Lagos is not up for grabs. And Lagos is certainly not a charity project for emergency parties seeking relevance through laughable headlines.

“The ADC’s posturing is nothing but a comical attempt to inflate a political balloon with the hot air of wishful thinking. A party without structures, without ideas, without credible candidates, and without electoral footprints cannot and will not take over a state built through decades of vision, continuity, competence, and unmatched performance.”

He urged the ADC to focus on building its local units first. Oladejo said the party should prove it can manage its own polling units before making broad claims about taking over Lagos.

Oladejo contrasted the ADC’s weak turnout in past meetings with the scale of Lagos, which he described as home to more than 20 million residents, advanced infrastructure, and an informed electorate. He suggested the ADC start with basic organisation, adding: “We encourage the ADC to first take internal attendance at its next party meeting. If they achieve a quorum, perhaps then they can graduate to contesting councillorship seats before dreaming of Alausa.”

  • I think ADC could surprise everyone in Lagos State. Politics is unpredictable, anything can happen! Lets wait and see.

  • I disagree with APCs dismissal of ADC in Lagos. Every party deserves a fair chance, lets not undermine any potential.
