Antoine Griezmann will leave Atletico Madrid at the end of the season to join Orlando City, marking the end of an era for one of the club’s greatest ever players.

The 35 year old forward has agreed a two year contract with the Major League Soccer side and is expected to complete his move in July. Atletico confirmed that Griezmann recently travelled to Florida with the club’s permission to finalize the deal.

Griezmann departs as Atletico’s all time leading goalscorer, having netted 211 goals and surpassing the long standing record of Luis Aragones. Across two spells with the Spanish side, he made 488 appearances and played a key role in their success, including winning the Europa League in 2018.

Before leaving, Griezmann will aim to end his Atletico career on a high note. The team, managed by go Simeone, is preparing for crucial fixtures including a Champions League clash with Barcelona and a Copa del Rey final against Real Sociedad.

Internationally, Griezmann enjoyed a stellar career with France national team, winning the 2018 FIFA World Cup and scoring 44 goals in 137 appearances before retiring in 2024.

His move to MLS continues a growing trend of elite European players heading to the United States. He will join former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez in the league, adding further global appeal.

Orlando City, who joined MLS in 2015, are still chasing their first MLS Cup title. The club’s owner Mark Wilf described Griezmann as one of the most influential players of his generation, expressing confidence that his arrival will strengthen the team’s ambition to compete at the highest level.
