Amaechi Vows 50/50 Cabinet Split and Youth Quota if he Becomes President

Former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi has announced a blueprint for his prospective administration that would make gender parity and youth representation central features of his cabinet.

Speaking at a gathering in Port Harcourt, Amaechi said that, if elected president on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ticket, he would appoint a 42-member cabinet evenly divided between women and men, 21 ministers of each gender as a demonstration that competence, not , determines effective leadership.

He explained that the arrangement is intended to foster merit-based competition and to show Nigerians and the international community that governance performance transcends gender. Amaechi added that a substantial portion of those appointments would be reserved for younger leaders: roughly 10 or 11 of the 21 ministerial slots on each side would go to youth nominees, with the remaining positions filled by older women and men across a range of ages.

“The plan is to measure performance side by side,” Amaechi said, arguing that a balanced roster would allow citizens to compare outcomes and judge officials by results rather than identity. He suggested that this combination of youth energy and experienced leadership would strengthen decision-making and accountability in government.

Amaechi’s proposal underscores his broader campaign emphasis on inclusion and institutional renewal as he prepares to contest the presidency under the ADC banner.
