Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has officially flagged off the construction of the Ibom CNG Mass Transit Terminal at Ikot Ekpe Offot, Uyo, as part of his administration’s effort to enhance public transportation across the state.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Governor Eno announced that 50 CNG buses have been ordered through the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and are expected to arrive from April 2026. These buses will serve all 31 local government areas, improving intra-state connectivity, boosting economic activities, and enhancing tourism potentials.

Governor Eno described the site, previously abandoned and occupied by touts and criminals, as now transformed into a world-class transport facility. He emphasized that the project would provide not only buses but also training schools for technicians, gas stations, and employment for about 500 drivers.

“This is not just a bus terminal. Other facilities will be provided to ensure comfort, and management will be topnotch,” Eno said, highlighting plans for an integrated transportation network, including marine and aviation projects, such as a marine terminal in Oron with two marine boats on order.

The Governor credited the Minister of Petroleum – Gas, Obongemem Ekperikpe Ekpo, for supporting the project, describing the collaboration as crucial for achieving the vision of affordable, efficient, and safe transportation for all Akwa Ibom residents.

Ekpo commended Governor Eno for his pragmatic leadership and noted that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope vision, aiming to mitigate the effects of subsidy removal and reduce the cost of living.

Governor Eno assured that the administration is committed to linking all local government areas with Uyo, ensuring that residents travel easily, safely, and affordably while contributing to the state’s economic growth.
